
Police sub inspector Bhujang alias Nana Dattatray Kadam, who was arrested by the Anti Corruption Bureau ACB on Wednesday 8212; for allegedly taking a bribe from Sheikh Rashid Chotumiyan, over a period of one year 8212; was produced in the Shivajinagar District and Sessions court today. Kadam has been charged under the Prevention Of Corruption Act 1988.
Rashid, a resident of Chakan, is a scrap dealer. He was arrested some months ago with his tempo MH-14 F 8383 full of scrap iron, by PSI Kadam and his assistant PSI Rahul Kale.
Despite having all the papers, they told him to pay up if he wanted his tempo back. They first took Rs 1.5 lakh and then Rs 30,000 twice from him. They also threatened him of dire consequences if he complained against them.
Two months ago, another businessman from Ahmednagar had come to Rashid8217;s shop to buy some scrap iron. He loaded his tempo MH-04 C-3419 and was going back when Kadam and Kale again stopped the tempo. Rashid went to the Alandi police station to get the tempo back. There, Kadam and Kale asked him for another Rs 90,000 if he wanted the tempo back. Rashid told them that he will pay them in two installments of Rs 50,000 and Rs 40,000.
Meanwhile, Rashid lodged an FIR with the ACB in Ahmednagar. On Wednesday, he went to pay Kadam and ACB officials nabbed Kadam red-handed.
Kadam has been remanded to magisterial custody till November 3. However, later he was granted a bail on a personal bond of Rs 15,000.
