Contractor held

CHANDIGARH, Oct 29: The UT Vigilance Cell has arrested Yash Pal Saggi, an electrical contractor under the Prevention of Corruption Act and under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code.

Saggi was a contractor involved in various electrical works at Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32. A case has been registered against him in the Vigilance Cell. Saggi was allegedly the contractor favoured by former UT Chief Engineer K K Jerath in the allotment of several electrical works. Earlier, in a separate case, an inquiry had been carried out by the Vigilance Cell regarding malpractices in the Engineering Department. A case was registered with Economic Offences Wing regarding the matter. However, Saggi filed an application in the high court following which an interim stay on his arrest was granted.
