
AHMEDABAD, Oct 5: The Congress has reiterated its demand for a white paper on the financial position of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation AMC.
Kalupur councillor Surendra Bakshi has alleged that public works in his ward has come to a standstill due to non payment of bills to contractors. The payment of pay scale arrears and pay commission arrears was pending besides the Rs 60 crore payable to school board teachers. Over and above, AMTS staff was not yet paid their dearness allowance arrears, Bakshi said. AMTS debt had gone up to Rs 120 crore and that of the AMC was Rs 316 crore.
He alleged that traders and people have started complaining about the harsh recovery procedure adopted by the AMC to shore up finances. To add to the woes of the Corporation, the Government has denied any help in financing Raska weir water supply scheme.
8220;We being the people8217;s representatives have the right to know the true position,8221; Bakshi said alleging that the ruling party was hiding facts. He expressed fear that if the AMC went in for Raska project, it would stop other development works because of financial crunch. He pointed out that with a limited development budget of Rs 307 crore, several projects would have to be abandoned.
