Cong debacle in bypolls too

The Congress on Sunday took a severe drubbing in Tuesday8217;s by-elections to three Lok Sabha and five Assembly seats. The party managed to retain only one Lok Sabha seat and was defeated in four Assembly segments. While it retained the Nainital Lok Sabha seat in Uttaranchal, the BJP wrested both Mehsana Gujarat and Godda Jharkhand seats. Of the five Assembly segments for which bypolls were held, the Congress bagged only the Daporijo seat in Arunachal Pradesh, facing defeat in the remaining four. While in Rajasthan, the BJP bagged all the three Assembly seats of Bansur, Sagwara and Bali, the AGP wrested the Khumtai seat in Assam from the Cong.
