BATHINDA, Jan 24: Hakam Singh, branch manager, State Bank of Patiala, Mahima Sarja, has alleged that he was called to the local Civil Lines Police Station, humiliated by the policemen and finally detained for about six hours by the inquiry officer, for getting a matter probed against Amar Singh, a Special Police Officer SPO.

The manager said that he had approached SSP, Harnek Singh, for appropriate action against his relative Amar Singh SPO, for allegedly torturing and intimidating his Hakam Singh8217;s entire family, three months ago.

He said that the SSP had ordered a probe into the matter and appointed DSP City as the inquiry officer. He further said that he was called by the inquiry officer in the Civil Lines Thana for recording his statement on Thursday.

Hakam Singh charged that instead of recording his statement, the officer starting using derogatory words against him. The officer, he said was angry with him for getting the matter probed against a cop. quot;When I protested I was kept in custody for about six hours, without framing of any charges against mequot;, he alleged.

Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee chairman SC/ST Cell, Jasmel Singh Gill, said that the police was high-handed, while adding that Hakam Singh was humiliated in his presence too. He said that Hakam Singh was not let off even after his intervention. He was finally let off at the intervention of bank employees union leaders.

SSP, Harnek Singh, when contacted over phone said that he would get the incident probed by a senior police officer, adding that the accused would not be spared.
