A 44-year-old man allegedly strangled his wife before dying by suicide at their residence in West Delhi’s Anand Parbat area on Wednesday evening, police said, adding that no foul play has been alleged by the family.
According to the police, a PCR call was received at Anand Parbat police station around 5:26 pm from the man’s brother-in-law. A police team reached the man’s house in Nai Basti. A room was locked from inside and the door had to be cut open, officers said.
Inside the room, police found a woman, identified as Jyoti (37), lying dead on the floor. Her husband, Jai Prakash, was found hanging.
“Family members of both the deceased told police that Jai Prakash was suffering from depression for the last 13 years. An inquiry revealed that Jai Prakash closed and locked the room from inside and killed his wife by strangling her. He then hanged himself,” said a senior officer.
The bodies were shifted to RML Hospital. Police said no suicide note has been recovered so far and there was no sign of external or forced entry. Family members of the deceased do not suspect any foul play, officers added.
