The Noida Authority is set to launch a fleet of over 500 electric buses (e-buses) in a phase-wise manner that will operate in Noida, Greater Noida, and the area around Yamuna Expressway in July-August

Speaking to The Indian Express, Chief Manager of Noida Authority’s New Township Cell, S P Singh, said that it has been proposed that a tender process and a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) will be initiated to execute the project.

“We expect to begin the service in a phased manner in the second quarter of this year, somewhere in July and August. We will start with 100 buses first,” he said, adding that the e-buses will operate on routes based on on-demand requirements.

Officials said that in June last year, tenders were invited and two companies – Travel Time Mobility India Private Limited and Delbus Mobility Private Limited – were selected to operate the buses. While Travel Time Mobility India was tasked with operating 9-m-long buses at a rate of Rs 54.9 per km, Delbus Mobility was to operate 12-m-long buses at a rate of Rs 67.99 per km.

“However, the project was cancelled and the contracts of the companies terminated,” said Singh.

Now, a SPV will be formed at the government level to operate these e-buses, he added.

“While 257 e-buses are proposed to run on 13 routes in Noida, 196 will run on nine routes in Greater Noida, and 52 on two routes in Yamuna Expressway area,” Singh said.

“The project is aimed at making the buses available at 10-minute intervals, with a halt of 20 minutes between each trip. Between 10 to 20 buses are going to be deployed on each route,” he added.

The service will cover 25 routes, including key intra-city corridors and links to the upcoming Noida International Airport in Jewar. These routes included Shashi Chowk to Ace City; areas in Kasna village to Sharda University; Tigri Gol Chakkar to Rajnigandha Chowk; Ek Murti Chowk in Greater Noida West to G B University; Botanical Garden to Sampoornam; and Dadri to GB University via Kasna, among others, said officials.
