Rane left in his helicopter at about 5.05 pm after inaugurating the Phase I and II of Krishna Valley irrigation projects at Mhaisal in Sangli district when the pilot lost ground contact due to sudden storm and showers developed in the Western Ghat area. According to airport sources, bad weather forced the helicopter emergency landing.

A young man in police custody died when he jumped off a running train and was crushed by another local coming from the opposite direction between Naigaon and Bhayander railway stations on Friday.Police sources said Vikas Eknath Jadhav 23, a resident of Nalasopara, had been picked up by Nalasopara police for his role in a Rs 1.18 lakh robbery that tookplace at village Nanbaug recently. The case was being investigated by Ravindra Sengaonkar, deputy police superintendent Vasai, and as police wanted more information about Jadhav8217;s accomplices, he was first taken by a sub-inspector to Bhayander where some of the other suspects were believed to be staying, police said. On Friday morning, Jadhav again reportedly agreed to take the police to some other suspects, sources said, and he and a sub-inspector got into a Churchgate-bound local from Vasai at around 11.45 am. But even though Jadhav was not handcuffed, the sub-inspector allowed him to stand near the doorway, while himself choosing to sit inside. As the train neared Bhayander station, the suspect suddenly jumped and was crushed by a train coming from the opposite direction, sources said. He was immediately taken to Bhagwati Hospital but died soon after admission.
