
The death of a 23-year-old British call centre employee in Newport, reportedly due to an infection after cutting her toe in a Mumbai night club, has sparked off a media buzz in the UK.
Lucy Wilson, a customer service advisor at Lloyds TSB who left Mumbai on November 12, died on Monday evening at her residence in the UK.
Although the post-mortem report is awaited, a UK newspaper has reported that Wilson, 8216;8216;fell sick after she cut her toe on a broken bottle in a Mumbai nightclub8230; she suffered a slight cut which became infected, but her condition later worsened and she died on Monday.8217;8217;
Other unconfirmed media reports said the bank has offered its British call centre staff in India the chance to come home following their colleague8217;s death.
A staffer at the general insurance business in the Newport office of Lloyds TSB, Wilson was sent to Mumbai from early October to November as part of a 30-member team to train 300 call centre employees.
The newspaper reports quoted her father, Julian Wilson, as saying: 8216;8216;At the end she was on dialysis, her kidneys had completely failed.8217;8217;
However, the hospital8217;s communication officer declined to give any information on Wilson8217;s death. 8216;8216;It was unfair to the family to comment on the cause as the post-mortem report was yet awaited. Any information can only come from the police, an no other reports are to believed untill then,8217;8217; the officer said. Speaking to The Indian Express, over the phone, Mary Walsh, a spokesperson from Wilson8217;s company said, 8216;8216;It is too early to ascertain the cause of her death. It will be the post-mortem reports that will throw some light into the reasons for the death. Our No 1 priority right now is to support the family and help them deal with the tragedy.8217;8217;
