
Token stir by MARD on Feb 14
The Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors MARD, the umbrella organisation which had spearheaded the resident doctors8217; strike, has announced a token strike on February 14. According to Dr Rajas Deshpande, MARD organising secretary and spokesperson, a decision on continuing with the strike would be taken at a statewide MARD core committee meeting to be held on February 9. MARD was pressing for the immediate implementation of the assurances given to them, he added.
President8217;s award for poIice inspector
Police Inspector Prakash George attached to Trombay police station has been awarded the President8217;s Police Medal for meritorious service recently. In his career in police spanning 23 years he has to his credit several sensitive operations, including an encounter with terrorists of the Khalistan Commando Force in Bhandup. He had also effected several arrests of notorious gangsters. As an officer at various police stations, PI George had solved severalcases of murder and robbery and had also recovered the stolen property and narcotics.
Global meet on pain from Feb 11
A three-day national conference A global update on pain8217; will be held starting Feb 11 at Bombay Hospital. Organised by the Department of Anesthesiology, Bombay Hospital, Institute of Science and the Indian Society for Study of Pain, the meet will also feature an exhibition on treatment modalities at the Home Guards ground near the hospital.
