Onam celebrations have reached the Chinese shores with Malayalees spreading the cheer and Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao joining them with his wishes.

8220;I wish to convey through you greetings to the people of Kerala on the occasion of Onam,8221; he said when told that 8220;Thiru Onam8221;, the principal day of the three-day festivities, was being celebrated in his home state.

Keralites in Beijing celebrated the festival under the auspices of Beijing Malayalee Association in which Indian Ambassador Nirupama Rao was the chief guest.

Rao, who hails from Kerala, urged the Indian community in China to contribute their might to the strengthening of India-China relations, describing them as one of the most important bilateral ties in the world.

This year8217;s celerbations had an added attraction with the participation of a Chinese woman married to a Keralite businessman currently based here.

8220;I love the food and the Malayalee culture,8221; Miao Shenyen, the woman, said after partaking the traditional 8216;onasadya8217; feast.
