
CHENNAI, SEPT 2: China claimed a grand double, winning both the boys and girls titles in the Indian Oil Servo seventh Asian Junior table tennis championship beating Korea holders and Chinese Taipei respectively today.
With amazing speed and top spin serves, China8217;s Wang Mao literally toyed with Korea8217;s Kim Jung Hoon for a 21-14, 21-16 win to put his team ahead.
In the second tie, Korea8217;s Ryv Seung Min, after losing the first game to Tank Peng, came up with a sterling display, to recover from 12-18 for a 24-22 win in the second and went on to complete a 14-21, 24-22, 21-13 victory to level the score at 1-1.
After Zhang Li beat Yoon Jae Young 21-17, 13-21, 21-12 to put China again in the lead, Ryu Seung Min restored parity beating Wang Mao 21-16, 17-21, 21-9 to take the match to the deciding tie.
China8217;s Tang Peng, after surviving some scare in the second game, won the match for China 3-2, scoring over Korea8217;s Yoon Jae Young at 21-9, 21-6.
China thus avenged their 1997 loss to Korea at Goa andclaimed the double crown in the boys and girls events.
