Even as the Centre rushed a team of bomb and forensic experts to Srinagar to investigate the car bomb blast that killed five people, conflicting versions have emerged about the attack.

According to Special Secretary (Internal Security), Anil Chowdhary, initial investigations by local police indicate that the terrorists had rammed an explosive-laden Maruti car into the Army Gypsy, but security forces said the car exploded as the convoy was passing through.

Meanwhile, Minister of State for Home Sriprakash Jaiswal said that a terrorist jumped off the car seconds before it collided with the convoy. The terrorist had most probably escaped, he added.

Chowdhary said that efforts were to establish whether it was a suicide attack or the terrorists blew up the car, using a remote control. This is the sixth attack this year in which an explosive-laden vehicle was used.
