PUNE, Nov 6: High drama prevailed at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Cantonment High School today when a student of std X allegedly attempted to set himself afire during the visit of a high-level committee of the Pune Cantonment Board.The committee was appointed by PCB president Brig Madan Gopal to examine the allegations of harassment to female students by a teacher. It included vice-president Nizam Kazi, ward member Gautam Mahajan, former vice-president Vinod Sanghvi, nominated member Col K S Budhwar, member Vinod Mathurawalla and the school headmistress.The incident occurred when the committee members were recording statements from the teachers on the allegations when suddenly two policemen arrived in the school stating that they had received a wireless message about a self-immolation attempt. They, however, did not find anything suspicious and left the school.According to vice-president NIzam Kazi and Vinod Sanghvi, a student appeared before them and poured kerosene on his person. He was overpowered by the watchman and the teachers. The boy alleged that he was being harrassed by the teachers and the headmistress, Kazi revealed. Sanghvi stated that the committee members stopped the enquiry l and the rest of the investigations would now be conducted at the cantonment board. Despite several attempts, the president was not available for comment. CEO Sharma stated that something may have happened at the school.
