In the wake of the recent terror attack in Mumbai and in efforts to give more teeth to security forces to thwart infiltration of terrorists into the city, Delhi Police have stepped up security along the borders by installing Closed-Circuit Television CCTV cameras at the 27 border posts. A state-of-the-art hi-tech control room to monitor the feed received from the cameras will be made operational at the Delhi Police headquarters. The move came after terrorists struck Mumbai and killed more than 180 people, a senior Delhi Police official said.

8220;We8217;re putting up CCTV cameras at our 27 border checkposts,8221; Delhi Police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat told PTI. He, however, said the number of CCTVs to be installed have not been fixed yet.

Border areas, where cameras would be mounted, include 8212; Kapashera, Samalkha, Mahipalpur, Sindhu, Tikri, Ghaziabad, Badarpur and Palla village. 8220;Terrorists are exploring different means to sneak into our country. A decision has been taken to increase security at all vulnerable locations including entry points from bordering neighbouring states,8221; Bhagat said.

The department is already negotiating with firms and completing formalities. 8220;It will start operation within two to three months8217; time,8221; he said. The cameras would have the facility of rotating at any angle and their zoom power would be high so that they would not only be able to pinpoint vehicles trying to move out but also identify their occupants.

At night, these cameras would use infrared technology, an another official said.
