Leader of the Opposition L K Advani on Thursday made it clear that the BJP had not changed its stand either on Pakistan, terrorism or Kashmir.

Talking to The Indian Express, Advani said, 8220;We had decided not to brief the media on the BJP top leadership8217;s meeting with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on January 2. Whatever has been reported of the meeting is based on briefing by the government. I will not say a word on this meeting.8221;

Referring to his interaction with Stanford University students over lunch at his residence on Wednesday, Advani said he had told the students that the UPA-BJP meeting was a 8220;step in the right direction8221;. After all, he said, the government had chosen to talk to the BJP leadership after two-and-a-half years.

On the Pakistan dialogue of the UPA government, he told the students that it was the BJP that had started engaging Pakistan. But, it failed at the Agra Summit between then Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee and Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf as India did not want a dilution of its stand on terrorism, and that position got vindicated on January 6, 2004 in Islamabad. Advani said he told the students that the engagement continued.
