Apollo Tyres8217; profits decline

MUMBAI: Apollo Tyres has recorded a dip of over 18 per cent in net profit at Rs 11.50 crore for the second quarter ended September 30, 1998. The company8217;s net profit in the second quarter of the previous year stood at Rs 14.08 crore. Apollo Tyres8217; turnover also reduced to Rs 366.36 crore for the second quarter as against Rs 389.56 crore registered in the corresponding period the previous year. During the period, the company recorded a gross profit of Rs 19.20 crore as against Rs 22.46 crore in the previous year.

TNPCB orders closure of Lamp;T8217;s RMC plant:

CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board has ordered the closure of Larsen amp; Toubro Ltd8217;s ready mix concrete plant at Manapakkam in Chennai as it did not have the mandatory environmental clearance. The Rs 5-crore plant with a capacity of 4,800 cu mtrs per month was set up in a residential area six months ago.

Smithkline profit UP

MUMBAI: Smithkline Beecham Consumer Healthcare Limited hasrecorded a 27 per cent increase in net profit during the third quarter of the 1998 calender year to touch Rs 23 crore. Revenues during the period touched Rs 181.19 crore, up by 17 per cent from the previous year8217;s Rs 155.05 crore. The gross operating profit was enhanced by 25 per cent to Rs 36.97 crore, from Rs 29.57 crore for the same period in 1997.
