
VADODARA, Aug 5: By October, The Baroda Museum, arguably the best the in the State, will launch its own website with the aim of disseminating information about its treasures to a worldwide captive audience.
Confirming the plans to go on the Net, curator Satish Sadasivan and Museums Director, Gujarat, A N Khatri told Express Newsline that they were planning to adopt new technology in a big way. Sadasivan said they had already acquired a Pentium II computer and scanner, while an Internet connection would come through in a month.
So far as the website is concerned, the museum would not be able to post all information about its 60,000 exhibits at once, Sadasivan said, 8220;We have 16 galleries, covering items dating back to ancient times to as late as the 19th century. But we8217;ll focus on paintings of Egyptian, Roman, Dutch, Greek, European and Indian origin. We have some 250-odd paintings that deserve to be known all over the world.8221;
Besides, there is a 73-foot-long whale skeleton, a very rare exhibit, an scientific display covering the whole range, from unicellular species to human beings, and the 2500-year-old Egyptian mummy, one of the seven in the country, details of which would be posted on the Net, he said.
They were also planning to computerise the ticketing system, the curator added.
