Baptism allowed

CHANDIGARH, April 20: As the fast by undertrials in the Beant Singh assassination case lodged in the Burial Jail entered the 15th day today, UT District and Sessions Judge B. S. Bedi disposed of their plea for getting themselves baptised, by allowing them the same inside the premises of Burail Jail subject to the provisions of the Punjab Jail Manual Act, 1996.

The jail authorities had been issued a notice for today and did not oppose the said plea as the Chandigarh Administration has already issued instructions allowing a person to carry kirpans of specified size inside the jail, under the Punjab Jail Manual Act, 1996.
