British Airways has halted all its flights to Pakistan and an IMF team has left the country without completing an economic review due to security concerns in the wake of Saturday8217;s suicide attack on the Marriott Hotel here.

British Airways spokesman Sohail Rahman said the airline had temporarily suspended its operations in Pakistan following the bombing. Meanwhile, the International School of Islamabad, also known as the American school, on Monday closed down till Friday after it received a 8220;specific threat8221;, sources said.The school8217;s branches in Lahore and Karachi were also closed. In another development, the Indian High Commission on Monday cancelled an iftar reception scheduled for September 25 to express solidarity with the victims of the suicide attack on the Marriott Hotel.

Pak troops fire intruding US choppers

PAKISTANI troops fired on two US helicopters that intruded into Pakistani territory on Sunday night, forcing them to turn back to Afghanistan, a senior Pakistani security official said on Monday. The helicopters violated the border in the area of Lowara Mandi, 80 km west of Miranshah, the main town in the North Waziristan tribal region, at around 9.00 pm on Sunday, the official said. There was no official confirmation.

Afghan envoy-designate abducted

Afghanistan8217;s ambassador-designate to Pakistan Abdul Khaleq Farahi was on Monday kidnapped by unidentified gunmen, who ambushed his car and shot dead his driver, in the northwestern city of Peshawar, police said. Gunmen stopped the car of Farahi, who was earlier the Afghan Consul General in Peshawar, near his residence in the Hayatabad area on the outskirts of the city and opened fire killing his driver. The three men then got into the car and drove away from the spot with Farahi.
