
Mumbai, Feb 13: St Joseph8217;s bounced back from the brink of defeat to advance to the boys under-12 semi-finals of the MSSA-Colgate Inter-school hockey tournament at St Stanislaus School today.
Trailing Malad neighbours St Anne8217;s by a goal, despite enjoying the better of exchanges, Joseph8217;s found in Kunal Sompura a boy for the hour. His equaliser three minutes before the final whistle rescued them from elimination. Then, with one minute play left in extra time, Nigel McKinley produced the golden goal, much to Anne8217;s anguish.
Joseph8217;s will meet another Malad team in the semi-final, Our Lady of Remedy, who accounted for St Andrew8217;s, Bandra, by a solitary second-half goal.The other semi-final will be contested by traditional rivals Don Bosco and St Stanislaus, who scored identical 2-0 victories over their opponents.Bosco and Stanislaus will also meet in the under-10 boys8217; semi-finals. Today, Bosco defeated Andrew8217;s 3-0, while Stanislaus swamped Our Lady of Remedy 5-0. The feature of that match was a first halfhat-trick by Bradley Tellis.

New records were established in five out of six events of the Mumbai University Inter-collegiate shooting championship, which concluded at Chetana College today.
Jesal Ganjawala of Thadomal Shahani kicked it off by adding 21 to his own record set last year in thepeep sigh air rifle event. Yogesh Gadmale of Chetana then improved on Pravin Salunkhe8217;s record for open sight air rifle, in the process displacing Pravin to second place. Rishikesh Shinde did likewise to Junior National Amol Chauhan8217;s mark in the air pistol event.On the distaff side, Trupti Rasam of Chetana improved on fellow collegian Sarika Sathe8217;s open sight rifle mark, while Shefali Joshi came up with the best performance of the day, improving on the air pistol record by 101 points.
