Focus on waste management as Mohali MC clears Rs 22-cr works, okays new projects worth Rs 6 cr

The committee also cleared new development estimates amounting to around Rs 6 crore, which will facilitate the launch of fresh projects and enable the issuance of tenders in the coming weeks.

The Mohali municipal corporation’s Finance and Contract Committee Thursday approved work orders worth approximately Rs 22.22 crore, covering a wide range of development activities, Mayor Amarjit Singh Jeeti Sidhu said.

Briefing the media after a meeting of the committee that he chaired, Sidhu said, “These approvals focus on improving basic civic amenities and ensuring better service delivery to residents across Mohali.”
“Strengthening core infrastructure and improving the quality of civic services remain our top priorities. Most of the approved works are targeted for completion by March 31, 2026,” he added.

The committee also cleared new development estimates amounting to around Rs 6 crore, which will facilitate the launch of fresh projects and enable the issuance of tenders in the coming weeks.

A major portion of the approved works relates to solid waste management, aimed at strengthening sanitation and ensuring a cleaner city. The committee also approved projects for the repair and augmentation of water supply and sewerage systems, to ensure uninterrupted services in residential areas, industrial pockets and villages.

Among the key projects approved is the construction of an underground storage reservoir (UGSR) in the Industrial Area of Phases 8A and 8B, at an estimated cost of Rs 1.35 crore, which is expected to improve water supply in the area.

The committee also cleared works related to road repairs and strengthening, development of green belts, and upgradation of public facilities such as libraries, parks, open gyms, sheds at RMC points, and the repair and maintenance of street lights. Proposals for machinery repair and manpower outsourcing to ensure the smooth functioning of the municipal corporation were also approved.
