CHENNAI, August 21: A statue of Buddha, dating back 1900 years, has been discovered near the submerged city of Poompuhar off the Tamil Nadu coast. The limestone statue was caught up in fishing nets a year ago. Archaeologists at the Marine Archaeology Museum, Poompuhar, identified the defaced idol, and said it was comparable to the images of Nagarjuna Konda of Andhra Pradesh.
