Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa today tried to lift the spirits of her demoralised party functionaries and loser candidates with a gift hamper: Plum postings in government undertakings.

As many as five AIADMK candidates, who lost the Lok Sabha elections, and eight district secretaries got appointment orders as chairpersons of various state-owned companies in Tamil Nadu. In all, 15 senior party functionaries were given posts that come with a car plus other perks and pay as fixed by the government.

In today8217;s bonanza, former Member of Parliament V. Saroja, who was denied a ticket to contest from Rasipuram, replaces an IAS officer and State Adidravidar Secretary P.Selvam as the new chairperson of the Tamil Nadu Adidravidar Housing Corporation.

The party8217;s Cuddalore west district secretary and the loser from Tindivanam, Arunmozhi Thevan, is now the chairperson of the ailing TN Housing Board. The party8217;s Madurai Rural district secretary, who lost from Dindigul, has been rewarded with the post of the chairman of TN Backward Classes Economic Development Corporation. However, the key beneficiary of the bonanza was K. Thangamuthu, who lost to Union Revenue Minister S.S. Palanimanikam who has promised to speed up cases of economic offences pending against Jayalalithaa.
