
CHANDIGARH, Oct 21: The first phase of an intensified pulse polio immunisation programme, to be held in four phases, will begin on October 24. Over one lakh children under the age group of five years are expected to be vaccinated during the campaign.
Addressing reporters here today, Health Services UT director Joginder Singh said the normal vaccination would also go on as usual during the programme. A total of 350 booths would be set up for the purpose and each booth will immunise about 300 children.
About two lakh doses of the vaccine will be administered , samples for which have been sent for testing at the Central Research Institute, Kasauli. Twelve mobile booths would travel around the city to vaccinate children. Ten booths would also be set up at the entry and exit points of the city, where all incoming traffic would be stopped and the children vaccinated.
The children coming from various trains to the city would also be vaccinated at the railway station.
