Iran’s Afshin Ghaderzadeh, the world’s shortest living man, has now qualified for yet another record – that of a male with the world’s smallest hands.

The record, noted as the distance from the tip of the middle finger to the crease under the palm where the wrist begins, has the 20-year-old’s left hand at 6.7 cm (2.63 in) and his right hand at 6.4 cm (2.51 in).

Notably, his hands are almost three times shorter than the average male adult’s.

The record was awarded to him in Milan, Italy on the Guinness World Records’ televised talent show Lo Show Dei Record. According to the Guinness Records website, Ghaderzadeh is the fourth-shortest man ever verified by it, standing at a height of 65.24 cm (2 ft 1.6 in).

Interestingly, just like Ghaderzadeh, the world’s tallest living man Sultan Kösen too has hands that are of ‘record-breaking’ size. The largest hands on a living man measure 28.5 cm (11.22 in) in length and 30.48 cm (12 in) in width each. Currently, Kösen has to be escorted by his parents everywhere.

Guinness noted that Ghaderzadeh was discovered in a remote village located in Bukan County, West Azerbaijan province, Iran. He can speak both Kurdish and Persian using the Farsi dialect. Since becoming a record holder, Ghaderzadeh has enjoyed visiting several new countries.

Growing up in Northern Iran was not easy for Ghaderzadeh as he could not attend school due to his size, nor was he deemed fit for any kind of job when he became an adult, the site mentioned. Now he spends much of his time watching cartoons and browsing social media sites, particularly Instagram.

Owing to his records, he has gained many followers and now admits he has discovered a talent for acting and creating content. “I like the attention I get from people. It makes me feel special,” Ghaderzadeh told the website in December 2022. On his dreams and desires, he said he would particularly like to own and drive a car.

Although Ghaderzadeh sometimes prefers to be carried, he is able to walk unassisted, thus he is categorised as the shortest man living (mobile), distinct from the title of shortest man living (non-mobile), which currently has no record holder, the site also reported.
