(Express Photo by Tashi Tobgyal)North India Weather Today LIVE Updates: As many as 27 flights of various airlines — 16 departures and 11 arrivals — were cancelled and many more were delayed at Delhi Airport on Thursday due to dense fog and a subsequent drop in visibility, a DIAL official told news agency PTI. Issuing a passenger advisory, DIAL said, “flight operations are currently under CAT-III conditions, which may lead to delays or disruptions.” For this type of operation, not only should the pilots be trained, but the aircraft must also be compliant.
Dense fog engulfed parts of North India early Thursday, with the air quality in Delhi hovering in the “very poor” category, as the Air Quality Early Warning Systems (EWS) recorded an AQI of 358, as of 7 am. Some parts of the national Capital also recorded air quality in the “severe” category, with AQIs crossing 400. The India Meteorological Department (IMD), meanwhile, issued a ‘yellow’ alert in Uttar Pradesh’s Varanasi today.

Airline advisories: Air India asked flyers to be ready for disruptions throughout the day as change of schedules in Delhi may cascade to other cities. IndiGo cancelled a few flights originating from Chandigarh through the day “to prioritise safety and help minimise extended waiting at the airport”, the airline shared over a post on X. SpiceJet, too, warned on Wednesday night that all departures/arrivals and their consequential flights from Varanasi might be affected. The airlines advised their passengers to check their respective websites for updated flight information.
