(Source: ANI Photo)Punjab Local Body Election Result 2025 LIVE Updates: The counting of votes is underway for the Zila Parishad and Panchayat Samiti elections in Punjab and the final tally is yet to be announced. As of Thursday afternoon, results for 331 of the 347 Zila Parishad zones have been declared, with counting still underway in two districts and counting continues.
Counting trends so far: Till Thursday evening, results for 2,697 of the 2,838 zones had been officially declared, with the Aam Aadmi Party emerging clearly ahead by winning 1,494 zones. The Congress followed with 567 seats, while the Shiromani Akali Dal secured 390 zones. The BJP won 75 zones, the BSP 28, and independent candidates bagged 143 zones.
Who contested the Punjab local body polls? Candidates from major parties, including the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Congress, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), and BJP, contested on party symbols. Ahead of polling, Congress and SAD accused the ruling AAP of “blatant electoral malpractices”, alleging that government machinery was used to block opposition candidates from filing nominations and even having some rejected. A total of 349 candidates in panchayat samiti polls were declared unopposed winners. Out of them, 339 were from the AAP.
AAP dominated the Punjab Zila Parishad elections, winning 218 of the 347 zones, while Congress secured 62 and SAD 46. BJP, BSP and independents together accounted for a small share of seats, highlighting AAP’s clear statewide lead and strong control over local bodies across districts.
AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday said the party’s strong performance in the zila parishad and panchayat samiti elections in Punjab reflected rural voters’ approval of the Bhagwant Mann-led government. He claimed AAP had won nearly 70% of the seats, indicating a strong pro-AAP wave ahead of the 2027 Assembly polls.
Kejriwal rejected opposition allegations of high-handedness, asserting the elections were free and fair, with close-margin victories for both AAP and opposition candidates serving as proof. Counting is still underway, but AAP is leading in most zones, with Congress second and SAD third. (PTI)
Here's the results update for Zilla Parishad election vote counting at 12 noon in the full list of districts below. AAP's tally was later updated to reflect 206 seats in total.
These are latest ZP results. 317 of 347 Zones have been declared. Counting is going on in two districts yet and data is being compiled, says State Election Commissioner Raj Kamal Chaudhuri.

This year, a total of 349 candidates in panchayat samiti polls were declared unopposed winners. Out of them, 339 were of the ruling AAP, three from Congress, and 7 were independents.
So far, the results of 2,300 panchayat samitis have been compiled by the State Election Commission (SEC) and 216 Zilla Parishad seats. This number includes the unopposed winners.
SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal will be visiting Khanna in Ludhiana in the afternoon. Wednesday late night, SAD's Khanna constituency in-charge Yadwinder Singh Yadu was arrested from a counting centre over charges of causing disturbance in government functioning.
He will be produced in court today. Badal is likely to meet Khanna SSP and also to address the party workers.
Last night, SAD workers blocked the Ludhiana-Delhi highway protesting the arrest.
Independents could hold the key in many districts as their total winning numbers are far more than the political parties like BJP and BSP. This can be witnessed in Ludhiana — the biggest district of Punjab.
Out of the total 25 Zila Parishad seats, AAP could win only 11 while they need a minimum 13 for a majority. There, independent candidates backed by rebel SAD candidate Manpreet Singh Ayali hold the key now.
SAD(Badal) won 3 seats, while Congress won 7 seats.
In Pathankot, where working president Ashwani Sharma is the MLA, BJP won four out of 10 zilla parishad seats. AAP bagged the rest (6 seats). BJP won 20 of the total 60 block samiti seats as well in Pathankot district.
BJP got a clear majority in Abohar, the constituency of state BJP president Sunil Jakhar. They won both zilla parishad seats in this assembly constituency. Out of 16 block samitis, BJP won 8 followed by AAP & SAD who got 3 each and only 2 by INC. Sandeep Jakhar, nephew of Sunil Jakhar, is the current MLA of Abohar. He won on a Congress ticket in 2022 but was suspended from the party in 2023.
In Bathinda out of 137 block samiti seats ...SAD won 79 followed by AAP (35). In the Zilla Parishad polls, SAD won 13 of 17 in this district.
Thus, getting control to elect its Zilla Parishad Chairman in this district, which has traditionally been an Akali stronghold.
Shiromani Akali Dal has outperformed in the Malwa region: Bathinda, Muktsar, Mansa and Faridkot districts.

The Block Samiti and Zila Parishad elections in Punjab, which was held on December 14, saw candidates backed by gangster-turned politician Gurpreet Singh Sekhon putting up a strong performance. In the Zila Parishad polls, Sekhon had fielded his wife Mandeep Kaur from Bajidpur seat and a close relative, Kuljeet Kaur, from the Ferozeshah seat.
Mandeep Kaur, who contested as an independent, won the Bajidpur Zila Parishad seat by a margin of over 3,000 votes, while Kuljeet won the Ferozeshah seat by over 8,500 votes. Mandeep said, “The results show the support of the masses and how AAP tried to corner us…”
Ferozepur district has a total of four Zila Parishad seats.
Out of eleven panchayat samiti seats in Muktsar assembly constituency, SAD is leading on ten and AAP on only one.
Mansa: Of the total 81 block samiti seats, AAP won 12 so far, followed by SAD ( 10) and one each by BJP and Congress and three by independents.

AAP had a saving grace in the CM's native district of Sangrur, after their candidate, Harvinder Pal Sharma, won the block samiti election in Chhajli, defeating the SAD candidate. This block includes Satoj village - the native village of Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann.
AAP state president Aman Arora said that the results were going the AAP way. In 354 zones of Zila Parishads going to polls, results were out in 71 bodies out of which AAP won 60, Congress won only seven, SAD and BJP won on one each and independents bagged two.
In 2863 blocks of Panchayat Samitis, results of 1875 were out yet. AAP won on 867, Congress bagged 216, SAD secured 129
and only 20 went to the BJP’s kitty.
He thanked the people of Punjab for showing faith in good governance of AAP. He said the results were completely one sided and AAP was the first choice of people.
Arora also said the elections were held in free and fair environment.
AAP candidate Balwinder Kaur after winning from the Kutbewal Gujran Block Samiti in Ludhiana.
Jaswinder Kaur of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) won the Mehal Kalan block, defeating Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Swarnjit Kaur. The Mehal Kalan block includes Kurar, the native village of AAP MP Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer, making the result politically significant. Meanwhile, in Patiala district, AAP is leading in 68 of the 184 block samiti seats.
The counting of votes for the Zila Parishad and Panchayat Samiti elections in Punjab began on Wednesday. Kurar, the native village of AAP MLA Kulwant Singh Pandori and MP Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer, was among the areas closely watched. In a notable result, the Jagdev Kalan block Samiti seat in Ajnala was won by a Shiromani Akali Dal candidate, despite Jagdev Kalan being the native village of AAP MLA Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal.
In Kapurthala district, results for the Panchayat Samiti elections showed a mixed outcome across different zones. Sukhwinder Singh, an Independent candidate, secured victory from Saido Bhulana, while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) won in multiple areas. Baljit Kaur emerged victorious from Dhudianwal, Swaran Kaur won from Bhaini Huse Khan, and AAP also clinched the seat in Desal, strengthening the party’s presence in the district.
Hoshiarpur district has begun witnessing results of the Panchayat Samiti elections, with outcomes declared in nine zones so far out of a total of 25 zones across 10 Panchayat Samitis. Among these, the Congress has secured victory in six zones, while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has won the remaining three. Counting for the other contested zones is still underway. In addition, candidates in 17 Panchyat Samitis zones have been elected unopposed, without any polling. The district has a total of 25 Zila Parishad zones and 208 Panchayat Samiti zones. Results for the remaining zones are awaited and are expected to provide a clearer picture of the political scenario in the district later today.

In Daulatpur block of Moga, after SAD (Badal) candidate Gurdarshan Singh won by 9 votes. AAP requested for recounting and afterwards his victory margin increased to 34 votes
Out of 6 panchayat samiti seats three have been won by SAD (Badal) two by AAP and only by BJP in Jaitu block of Faridkot.
In Jalalabad, Congress, BJP and SAD have staged dharna on highway with allegations of irregularities at that counting centre.
Counting is happening for 342 Zila Parishad and 2838 panchayat samiti/ block samiti seats. A total of 196 candidates were elected unopposed out of which 15 were Zila Parishad candidates and the rest panchayat samiti candidates.
195 were AAP candidates and only one independent who were elected unopposed.
In the Block Samiti elections of Talwandi Sabo block, Congress candidates won from Zone No. 3 and Zone No. 7, while Shiromani Akali Dal candidates emerged victorious from Zone No. 6 and Zone No. 12.
AAP is leading on 11 seats followed by Congress on eight and SAD on 3. BJP on none.
Teachers Jaskaran Singh and Kamaljeet Kaur had died on December 14 while on their way to poll duty, after their car had fallen in the canal in Moga district. In protest against their deaths, teachers’ unions in Moga had staged a demonstration in front of the DC office. To discuss the issue, the Deputy Commissioner, Moga, has invited leaders of the teachers’ unions for a meeting on December 19, 2025.

In Patiala, Akali Dal workers alleged that they were denied entry to a counting centre on the Patiala-Nabha road. Shiromani Akali Dal leader Jaspal Singh claimed that Rahul Saini, son of Punjab Health Minister Dr Balbir Singh, was inside the counting centre, while opposition representatives were denied entry.
Counting of votes for the Block Samiti and Zila Parishad elections began amid tight security arrangements. Police personnel were deployed in large numbers at counting centres to ensure smooth and peaceful proceedings.

Earlier, they had also targeted the Bhagwant Mann government, accusing it of using the government machinery to prevent their candidates from filing nomination papers and getting those rejected.
On December 14, opposition parties Congress and Shiromani Akali Dal had accused the ruling AAP of indulging in "blatant electoral malpractices" during the polling.
Candidates of all major political parties -- the Aam Aadmi Party, Congress, Shiromani Akali Dal, and the BJP -- contested the zila parishad and panchayat samiti polls on party symbols.
Polls were held to elect members of 347 zones of 22 zila parishads and 2,838 zones of 153 panchayat samitis on December 14. A voter turnout of 48 per cent was recorded in the daylong polling, with over 9,000 candidates in the fray.
