The actor-vlogger, who regularly shares essential skin, health, and fitness tips with her followers, recently took to Instagram to post a “few skincare things you must know”. In the video, Debina shared three essential pieces of skincare advice which you must take note of.

*She asked to avoid fancy lip balms as “simple Vaseline is good enough”.

Agreeing, Dr Vijay Singhal, Senior Consultant, Dermatology, Sri Balaji Action Medical Institute said that the lip don’t contain oil glands and have the usual layer of sweat and oils to keep them smooth and moisturised. “Vaseline has been one go-to hydrating jelly to deal with chapped lips in the market for decades. Not just from the winter chill, but the petroleum jelly also acts as a boon for lips during hot summer winds,” he said.

However, he added that its greasy texture might not be appealing to all, so some people might want to look for more specific benefits. “But overall, Vaseline is a great option for keeping your lips healthy and moisturised!”

*Suggesting using retinol on the neck, she said, “ageing shows the fastest in the neck.”

Elucidating, Dr Singhal said that retinol is a fantastic ingredient for anti-ageing and can work wonders on the delicate skin of the neck area. “It helps to increase collagen production, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, works on pigmented skin and improves overall texture and tone,” he said.

However, it’s important to start with a lower concentration and gradually work your way up to avoid potential irritation. “Also, make sure to always wear sunscreen during the day, as retinol can make the skin more sensitive to the sun’s harmful rays. So go ahead and apply retinol to your neck for a more youthful and radiant look!” Dr Singhal mentioned.

*Hands get chronic sun exposure. “Let’s get them to join the anti-ageing fun.”

The dermatologist said that if you’re wondering whether you should apply retinol on your hands too, the answer is yes. “Retinol is a powerful ingredient that helps to improve the texture and appearance of your skin by promoting cell turnover and collagen production.”

Similar to the skin of your face, the skin of your hands can also benefit from the anti-ageing effects of retinol. “So, if you want to keep your hands looking youthful and smooth, go ahead and apply some retinol-based products on them. Just be sure to follow the instructions carefully and start with a lower concentration to avoid any irritation,” he suggested.
