A toast to two bottles of whiskey that cost Rs 1.4 crore

It is being claimed that for the first time in the world a whiskey has broken the six figure barrier.

Taking the love for fine liquor to an unprecedented high,two whiskey lovers have shelled out a whopping

2,00,000 pounds (nearly Rs 1.4 crore),for two bottles of famed Dalmore 64 Trinitas in Glasgow.

The 64-year-old Trinitas,named because there were just three bottles produced,was acquired by a luxury whiskey lover in the US and a renowned whiskey investor in the UK for 1,00,000 pounds each.

According to United Spirits,its group firm Whyte & Mackay’s Dalmore Distillery is preparing to sell the third bottle of the record breaking spirit at a whiskey show in London at the end of October.

The company claims that it is for the first time in the world that a whiskey has broken the six figure barrier.

“The hand of time has been generous and rewarding with the malts I chose to use,” Dalmore’s renowned master distiller Richard Paterson said.

He further added: “They allowed me to create a taste sensation,which will never be repeated again and will only ever be available to those that own these bottles. You cannot put a price on that.”

Citing industry experts,the firm said if the bottle was sold by the glass in exclusive restaurants and clubs,it could fetch up to 20,000 pounds for a typical 50 ml dram.

Trinitas is believed to contain some of the rarest and oldest stocks of whiskey in the world,some of which have been maturing in the distillery on the shores of the cromarty firth for more than 140 years.

US-based US buyer Mahesh Patel,one of the buyers said the prized Trinitas would occupy a special position in his whiskey collection of over 1,000 bottles in his collection.

“The Dalmore Trinitas is now the jewel in the crown.” Sukhinder Singh,one of the world’s leading whiskey specialists based in the UK,said he bought bottle number two because he knew it was a wise investment.

“It is one of the most exclusive whiskies to have ever been released,and most importantly the whiskey is of amazing quality,” he added.

United Spirits Ltd (USL),the flagship of the UB Group,acquired Scottish spirits maker Whyte & Mackay for 595 million pounds (about Rs 4,783 crore) in May 2007.

As a result of the acquisition,Whyte & Mackay’s brands,including The Dalmore,Isle of Jura,Glayva,Fettercairn,Viadivar vodka and Whyte & Mackay blended Scotch,are now a part of the UB Group.
