Jasmin Bhasin shares her quick 3-ingredient face mask to tackle ‘uneven skin tone, pigmentation, and texture’: ‘Mujhe aaj dinner pe jaana hai’

After rinsing off the mask, it is important to moisturise and apply sunscreen if going out, as exfoliation can make the skin temporarily more sensitive to sunlight.

Jasmin Bhasin’s ongoing Instagram series, Jugaad with Jas, explores DIY hacks to solve last-minute skin and hair issues using pantry essentials. The latest instalment in the series introduces us to a 3-ingredient face mask that the Naagin actor claims helps tackle ‘uneven skin tone, pigmentation and texture’.

In a small bowl, Bhasin squeezed out about a handful of grated beetroot juice, added a spoonful each of rice flour and curd, and mixed everything together until it formed a semi-thick paste. “Mujhe aaj dinner pe jaana hai and I wanted that extra glow,” she shared in the video. After applying the paste on her face, she let it sit for about 10-20 minutes and waited for the mask to dry. Once ready, she took a soft cotton sponge to remove the mask and wash her face.

While Bhasin’s face seemed to glow right after, we decided to consult a health expert before trying this DIY hack at home.

Dr Shireen Furtado, Sr. Consultant – Medical & Cosmetic Dermatology, Aster CMI Hospital, Bangalore, shared that Jasmin Bhasin’s 3-ingredient face mask uses beetroot, rice flour, and curd, each with specific benefits for the skin.

Beetroot: It is rich in antioxidants, vitamins A, C, and iron, which can help brighten dull skin, improve circulation, and give a healthy glow. Its natural pigments may also slightly even out skin tone over time.

Rice flour: It is a gentle exfoliant that helps remove dead skin cells, smooth rough patches, and absorb excess oil. It can make the skin feel soft and refine texture without harsh scrubbing.

Curd: Contains lactic acid, a mild natural acid that can exfoliate, hydrate, and calm the skin. It also promotes a healthy skin barrier and may reduce inflammation or redness.

Is it safe to use for all?

“This mask is generally safe for most skin types, especially normal and dry skin,” said Dr Furtado, adding that people with sensitive skin should do a patch test before applying it to the face, as beetroot’s colour or natural acids in curd could sometimes cause mild irritation.

She warned against using the mask on broken skin, open wounds, or active acne, while stressing that overuse should be avoided. According to her, applying the mask 1-2 times a week is sufficient. “After rinsing, it is important to moisturise and apply sunscreen if going out, as exfoliation can make the skin temporarily more sensitive to sunlight,” she added.

Overall, Dr Furtado claimed that this DIY mask can indeed help with uneven skin tone and texture when used correctly. Consistency, gentle application, and proper precautions are key to seeing benefits without irritation, she said, while highlighting that even though natural ingredients are helpful, the final results may vary depending on individual skin type.
