The massive breakdown in services has been linked to crew shortages, triggered by the introduction of the new Flight Duty Time Limitation (FDTL) norms
IndiGo’s ongoing wave of flight cancellations has thrown airports across the country into disarray, leaving thousands of flyers stranded for hours with little clarity. In the middle of this chaos at Delhi airport, a distressing moment went viral — a father, visibly overwhelmed, pleading at the airline’s help desk for help for his daughter.
According to a News18 report, the video was shot at Delhi airport, and shows the man repeatedly asking for sanitary pads for his daughter, who he says was bleeding and needed immediate support.
“Sister, my daughter needs sanitary pads… She is bleeding. Flights are not running on time,” he shouts, capturing both his desperation and the broader frustration among passengers who had been waiting without information or basic facilities.
My daughter is bleeding…
Please, just give us one sanitary pad…A soldier kept pleading at the airport, begging for help,
but he couldn’t get a pad for his daughter,
whose period began unexpectedly. This is the condition of our airports—
even the most basic necessities aren’t… pic.twitter.com/l0OcRvgilP— Oxomiya Jiyori 🇮🇳 (@SouleFacts) December 5, 2025
The clip captures a tense scene, passengers angry over cancelled flights, and it has gone viral on social media platforms. However, not many were supporting such behaviour against the staff.
One user wrote, “People aren’t asking for luxury… they’re asking for basics. Unbelievable.” Another user commented, “This is a really sensitive thing, but he should have gone to a nearby medical store rather than shouting.”
A third person commented, “While I understand the father’s angst, I cannot believe there was not one woman around there not carrying a sanitary napkin.”
Following the nationwide disruption on Friday, IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers issued an apology and said the airline expects to fully stabilise operations between December 10 and 15. He added that fewer than 1,000 flights were scheduled to be cancelled on Saturday.
The massive breakdown in services has been linked to crew shortages, triggered by the introduction of the new Flight Duty Time Limitation (FDTL) norms. The government has now put portions of the order on hold and has asked for additional measures to restore normalcy, along with launching a high-level probe into the crisis. IndiGo’s operations at major hubs, including Delhi, Chennai, and airports across Jammu and Kashmir, remained suspended until Friday midnight.
The DGCA, in its latest notification, withdrew its instruction that barred airlines from substituting weekly rest with leave, noting the urgent need to ensure “continuity and stability of operations.”
Meanwhile, passengers continue to suffer. Thousands remain stranded, flight information is patchy, and airfares have shot up dramatically. On Friday, the only Mumbai–Delhi flight available showed a jaw-dropping fare of Rs 51,860, while the lone Delhi–Mumbai option was priced at Rs 48,972. Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport has said that IndiGo’s services are slowly edging back to normal, but for many travellers, the experience has already been nothing short of a nightmare.
