Katrina Kaif has time and again stressed that her morning routine is always simple. The Merry Christmas actor once shared how she kickstarts her mornings. “The first part of my beauty regime when I wake up is always drinking 2-3 glasses of something warm, whether it is ginger in hot water or lemon in hot water. That’s something I always do religiously. After that, I try to start my day with a little bit of stretching and movement,” she told Femina India in 2023.
What are the benefits of starting your mornings with glasses of warm water?
Drinking a warm beverage first thing in the morning is a simple yet powerful practice that can bring multiple physiological benefits to the body.
“Warm water helps stimulate digestive enzymes, which play an important role in breaking down food and ensuring that nutrients are more efficiently absorbed. At the same time, it improves intestinal motility, supporting regular bowel movements and helping prevent constipation—a common concern linked to sluggish digestion,” said Kanikka Malhotra, consultant dietitian and diabetes educator.
The gentle warmth also has a vasodilating effect, relaxing blood vessels and enhancing circulation.
According to Malhotra, improved blood flow ensures that oxygen and essential nutrients are transported more effectively to cells and tissues, contributing to overall vitality and energy levels. “In addition, consuming warm fluids aids the kidneys in flushing out metabolic waste products, thereby supporting the body’s natural detoxification processes,” said Malhotra.
Beyond digestion and circulation, warm hydration exerts a calming effect on the nervous system.
It can lower stress levels, promote balance in autonomic functions, and set a more relaxed tone for the day ahead. “By maintaining hydration at the cellular level, it also supports skin health, leaving the complexion more radiant. Incorporating this daily ritual is an easy, science-backed way to optimise digestive health, metabolic efficiency,” said Malhotra.
