11 parties to meet today to give shape to ‘Third Front’

Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, who has hinted at an alliance with CPI and CPM, is also hopeful of getting TMC and some other parties in the front.

Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha leaders of 11 non-BJP and non-Congress parties would meet in Delhi on Wednesday to “give formal shape to a federal block or third force and evolve common policy” to attack the Congress and BJP.

The immediate goal of these 11 parties would be to oppose the UPA government’s move to introduce populist measures in the coming Parliament session.
Among the parties attending the meeting are CPI, CPM, RSP, Forward Block, Samajwadi Party, JD(U), BJD, AIADMK, JVM, JD(S). Three other parties, which will join the upcoming front, do not have a representation in RS and LS.

JD(U) national spokesperson and Rajya Sabha MP KC Tyagi, who would attend the meeting along with Lok Sabha MP and party national president Sharad Yadav, told The Indian Express: “Now, with 11 parties confirming their attendance, talks of a federal block would start taking formal shape”.

Tyagi said this meeting would be followed by another one in Delhi on February 9 which will be attended by Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, JD(U) chief Sharad Yadav, Mulayam Singh Yadav, Navin Patnaik, HD Deve Gowda and top Left leaders.
