Uorfi Javed says Apoorva Mukhija’s fans sent her abusive DMs after their fight on The Traitors: ‘I shouldn’t have spoken the way I did’

In an exclusive conversation, Uorfi Javed accepted that she indeed over-reacted during her fight with Apoorva Mukhija on The Traitors.

Reality show star Uorfi Javed won Karan Johar-hosted The Traitors. Soon after she was announced as the show’s winner along with Nikita Luther, Uorfi became a victim of online abuse and trolling. Many social media users argued that fellow contestants Apoorva Mukhija and Purva Jha were more deserving of the title. Some criticised Uorfi for allegedly eavesdropping on a conversation between Purav and Harsh Gujral, which led to their eviction from the game. She was also slammed for ‘backstabbing’ Apoorva close to the finale.  In a recent conversation with SCREEN, Uorfi reflected on their conflict and admitted she could have handled the situation better.

Talking about their fight on the show, Uorfi said, “Usually, fights are bound to happen on the show. I cannot dwell on them. I don’t hate anyone, have no ill feelings towards anyone. They are all kids and have said something. They will laugh at it two years later, even I have done it. I am very impulsive.”

Uorfi Javed further shared that disrespect has become a major trigger for her, and when Apoorva Mukhija spoke to her in that manner, it set her off. She said, “I had a fight with Apoorva over respect. It is an insecurity I have. For so many years, I have been abused and disrespected so much that it has now made me insecure. Due to this, I cross certain lines and say things I cannot take back. I am completely at fault. During the fight with Apoorva, I could have handled the situation better. I shouldn’t have spoken the way I did. I over-reacted. I just felt how dare she talk to me like that?”

Discussing if they tried to mend the bridge at any point on the show, Uorfi said, “We are two very different people, our personalities don’t match. So we can’t stay friends. I don’t have anything against anyone, and I have no hatred for her. I didn’t say anything on social media, but she went on to say a lot of things. When she said I am a pathetic human being and I was eyeing Harsh, I felt very hurt. I just wondered how anyone can get so dirty. She has a massive audience of youngsters, and everyone started abusing me. I have received so many abusive DMs because of her. I was in a very weird space. But later I realized that it was not worth it, it just affected me at that time. I need to work on my impulsive nature, though.”

After winning The Traitors, Uorfi Javed shared the prize pot of Rs 70 lakhs with Nikita Luther. She is yet to announce her next project.
