Nandamuri Balakrishna’s Akhanda 2 India premieres cancelled; Telangana approves ticket price hike

The premiere shows of Nandamuri Balakrishna-starrer Akhanda 2 was scheduled for Thursday night in India. However, the production team announced on social media that the shows had to be cancelled due to technical issues. The film, however, is set to release on Friday with regular shows.

The makers’ statement read, “#Akhanda2 Premieres in India scheduled for today are cancelled due to technical issues. We’ve tried our best, but a few things are beyond our control. Sorry for the inconvenience. The overseas premieres will play as per the schedule today.” The overseas premiere shows will continue as planned, with the first show of the film beginning in the USA at 12.30 AM IST.

Meanwhile, the Telangana government has officially approved a ticket rate hike for Nandamuri Balakrishna’s Akhanda 2 for three days. This announcement came just a day before the release. This follows neighbouring state Andhra Pradesh allowing ticket hikes for 10 days.

In Telangana, single-screen theatres will charge Rs 227 per ticket (an increase of Rs 50 including GST), while multiplex tickets will cost Rs 395 (an increase of Rs 100 including GST).

For the first 10 days, cinema ticket prices in Andhra Pradesh have been increased, with single screens charging Rs 222.50 and multiplexes charging Rs 277. From Day 11 onwards, theatres will return to standard pricing.

Akhanda 2 is directed by Boyapati Srinu, who has previously collaborated with Nandamuri Balakrishna on hits such as Simha (2010), Legend (2014) and Akhanda (2021). Akhanda 2 is a sequel to the 2021 film Akhanda, which was a major box-office hit despite mixed reviews. Made on a budget of Rs 50 crore, the film grossed Rs 117 crore worldwide.
