Director Aishwarya Rajinikanth reemerged following an eight-year hiatus with her new film, Lal Salaam. Unfortunately, her comeback film has turned out to be an underwhelming affair, despite having her father Rajinikanth in a supporting role. Starring Vishnu Vishal and Vikranth in prominent roles, the film opened to low numbers, and failed to pick up the pace even after a few days.

On the sixth day, the film raked in approximately Rs 1.19 crore nett in India, bringing its total domestic box office earnings to Rs 14.14 crore nett, according to Sacnilk.

With music from AR Rahman, Lal Salaam was released with a lot of expectations, but it opened to mixed reception. On the first day, the film collected about Rs 3.55 crore. While it managed to rake in Rs 3 crore consistently over the weekend, since Monday, the collections have dropped to Rs 1 crore. Throughout the weekdays, the film has managed to only collect Rs 1 crore every day, which is a bleak number for a film featuring Rajinikanth.

Despite its thematic focus on religious harmony, Lal Salaam has struggled to resonate with audiences. Produced by Lyca Productions, the film boasts a diverse ensemble cast featuring Vishnu Vishal, Vikranth, Livingston, Senthil, Jeevitha, KS Ravikumar, Thambi Ramaiah, and Vivek Prasanna in supporting roles. Additionally, cricket legend Kapil Dev made a cameo appearance.

With Vishnu Rangasamy co-writing the screenplay with Aishwarya, AR Rahman composing the music, and Pravin Baaskar editing, Lal Salaam is supported by a talented technical team. However, its tepid performance at the box office has added to the ongoing woes of Tamil cinema, which has been having a bad year till now. Except for Captain Miller and Ayalaan, there hasn’t been a decent hit in the industry yet. A lot of hopes were pinned on Lal Salaam, but it has all been in vain.
