Idly Kadai Box Office Collection Day 2:Every actor, director and producer feels responsible for their film, and Dhanush is playing all three roles in his latest project, Idly Kadai. The Tamil film had a respectable start in theatres, earning Rs 11 crore on its opening day. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film earned Rs 10.26 crore on the second day of its theatrical run, taking its India net collection to Rs 21.26 crore. The last film directed by Dhanush was Nilavuku Enmel Ennadi Kobam, and that completely crashed at the box office, amassing a measly India net collection of Rs 8.09 crore. His acting chops were last on display in the film Raayan, also directed by him. The film earned Rs 154 crore worldwide. Idly Kadai is running a little behind Raayan’s collection after two days but seems to be holding its own. It still remains to be seen whether this has the potential to be Dhanush's top-earning film as a director. Apart from the two aforementioned films, Dhanush has also helmed Pa Paandi and 10 episodes of TV series Avalum Naanum. It also got 343 shows in Telugu. The occupancy rate for the same averaged out at an impressive 59.87% for the day, with the morning and afternoon shows achieving rates of 34.98% and 70.02%. After the sudden peak during the day, the rates dipped ever so slightly, with the evening and night shows filling seats at a rate of 69.21% and 65.26%. It is clear from the way Dhanush has talked about the project, that it is quite close to his heart. During the audio launch event, Dhanush shared the story behind the film and said, "An idli kadai is a very important aspect of my childhood. We didn’t have any money during our childhood to buy idlis from the idli kadai in our place. So we started collecting flowers from the fields and sold them for money. My sister, cousins, and I would wake up at 4 am to do this every day so that we can have idlis from that shop. Nothing to this day beats the taste of those 4-5 idlis we bought with our hard-earned money. This film is my tribute to that place." While no one expected it to reach the levels of the Rajinikanth-led Coolie, it is definitely on the path of beating the AR Murugadoss directorial Madharassi (Rs 62.57 cr), as it has already made a third of its total net earnings in just two days. Helmed by Dhanush, the cast of the film includes Ilavarasu, Geetha Kailasam, Raj Kiran, Nithya Menen, Shalini Pandey, Arun Vijay, Prakash Raj, and Raj Kiran.
