GOAT box office collection day 2 early report: Following a strong opening, director Venkat Prabhu’s action thriller The Greatest of All Time (GOAT), featuring “Thalapathy” Vijay in dual roles, has seen a notable drop in collection. Based on current trends, the film’s second-day box office earnings are expected to be significantly lower than its debut. According to AGS Entertainment, the production and distribution company behind the film, GOAT grossed over Rs 126.32 crore globally on its release day on Thursday.

On its first day, the Vijay-starrer recorded an India nett collection of Rs 44 crore, according to industry tracker Sacnilk. The Tamil version alone contributed Rs 39.15 crore, while the Telugu and Hindi versions added Rs 3 crore and Rs 1.85 crore, respectively. However, by 6 pm on Friday, the film has collected only Rs 13.89 crore, with an overall occupancy rate of 50.57 per cent in the Tamil market. Morning shows saw a 45.99 per cent occupancy rate, improving slightly to 55.14 per cent for the afternoon screenings. Though the Tamil version maintained an 82 per cent occupancy rate in Chennai, the figures were significantly lower in other key cities like Bengaluru (24%), Kochi (12%), Mumbai (16.5%) and the National Capital Region (6%). The film’s mixed reviews, combined with it being a weekday, seem to have contributed to this decline in earnings.

It’s worth noting that GOAT’s first-day global gross is considerably lower than Vijay’s previous film Leo, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, which earned Rs 148.5 crore on its opening day, according to Seven Screen Studio, the producers of the movie. Given that GOAT is being touted as Thalapathy’s penultimate film before his full transition into politics, its inability to match Leo’s opening is a concern for the makers, especially given its hefty Rs 400 crore budget. Nonetheless, they are optimistic that GOAT’s box office performance will improve over the weekend.

Also starring Sneha, Prashanth, Prabhu Deva, Ajmal Ameer, Mohan and Jayaram in key roles, GOAT features cinematography by Siddhartha Nuni, editing by Venkat Raajen and music by Yuvan Shankar Raja. In his review of the movie, The Indian Express’ Avinash Ramachandran wrote, “Vijay’s The Greatest of All Time is effectively shouldered by an in-form superstar, but crumbles under the pressure of having an old school template one-liner that is heavily reliant on a singular idea.”
