Amaran trailer: “Achamillai, achamillai, acham enbathu illaye… Uchi meedhu vaan idinthu veezhkindra pothilum (I fear nothing… Even if the sky itself were to break and fall on my head),” Major Mukund Varadarajan, played by Sivakarthikeyan, sings with his daughter, while his wife Indhu Rebecca Varghese, played by Sai Pallavi, records the heartwarming moment on video. It’s hard to imagine anything else encapsulating the essence of Mukund’s life better than these lines from a poem by Subramania Bharati (Bharatiyar). Hence, it’s no wonder that the makers of the biographical war film Amaran chose to begin the trailer of the upcoming film with this scene.

The 140-second promo video doesn’t just show such adorable moments, but also explores the tumultuous life of Mukund, both on the battlefield and at home as his parents were initially fearful of sending him to the Army, given the volatile nature of the job. But Mukund’s determination ultimately won them over, leading him to join the military. “This is the face of the Indian Army,” Mukund declares in the end of the video.

Blending drama with action, the trailer promises a comprehensive narrative, chronicling the life and legacy of Major Mukund Varadarajan, who was posthumously awarded the Ashoka Chakra — India’s highest peacetime military decoration awarded for valour, courageous action or self-sacrifice away from the battlefield. Mukund tragically lost his life in a 2014 encounter with militants in Shopian, Jammu and Kashmir.

Directed by Rajkumar Periasamy, Amaran is an adaptation of the book series India’s Most Fearless: True Stories of Modern Military by Shiv Aroor and Rahul Singh. The film is jointly produced by Raaj Kamal Films International and Sony Pictures Films India. Along with Sivakarthikeyan and Sai Pallavi, the cast includes Bhuvan Arora, Rahul Bose, Lallu, and Shreekumar in key roles. The film boasts music by GV Prakash Kumar, cinematography by CH Sai and editing by R Kalaivanan. Amaran will hit the screens worldwide on October 31.
