Super Stuck

There’s a bit of sunshine in Chor Chor Super Chor in the shape of Deepak Dobriyal,who can make the proverbial sack look interesting. Here,he hangs around a Delhi metro station platform which also doubles up as a mini-shopping centre as a giant samosa.

That is,instead of being a Mickey Mouse or a Donald Duck,he is a desi garma-garam savoury,hired by a stall-owner,to lure customers. This is a most edible idea,and perhaps the most original part of Chor Chor Super Chor. Except,just like poor Dobriyal who gets stuck within the huge samosa cut-out,so does the film.

Dobriyal is part of a gang of thieves,whose boss is a principled man. They will stick to maaroing pockets,and snatching purses,but will not kidnap. This leads to a Delhi-style jhadap (tussle) between two gangs,a botched kidnap attempt,and a preposterous TV reality show,peppered with the standard Jat Dilli lingo,scattered between these chors (thieves) and the police.

Turning the tables on someone usually is a fun thing. But the execution is amateurish,so is most of the acting,even if Dobriyal keeps some of it humming. This may have been a good half hour reality show,perhaps,but doesn’t have enough for a full-length feature film.
