Manasi evolves to screen with Jhootha Hi Sahi

After establishing herself as an Indipop artiste and style icon,Manasi Scott makes her acting debute.

What made you act in Jhootha Hi Sahi?
I got my first film offer in 2005,but at that time I was so nervous that I turned it down. I love the stage and the adrenaline rush that it gives me. Bollywood was not in the plan back then. But as an artiste, you constantly evolve, and this is my way of doing it.

Why did you chose Jhootha Hi Sahi as your debut film?
I have known Abbas (Tyrewala) for years and he’s a genius. Also, the character that I play is very close to my real self — straightforward and spicy but can be manipulated and gets hurt easily.

How was the chemistry with your co-actors?
Like Abbas,I have known John (Abraham) too for very long. He has simply surprised me with his acting and he took such good care of the team. However,Pakhi and I had our differences — when two talented and strong women meet, there is bound to be some problem. But I have to give her credit for such a detailed script and characterisation.

Who would be your dream co-star from Bollywood?
Abhishek Bachchan and Ranbir Kapoor.

It’s surprising you haven’t sung even one song in the film.
I would have loved to sing. Actually, ask AR Rahman why I wasn’t approached. (giggles)

Who is your current favourite musician?
Pop icon Lady Gaga. From songwriting to music direction to composition; she has immense confidence in herself.

Your favourite song?
It has to be Pakistani band Fuzon’s song Mora Saiyaan.

Which fashion designer or label do you swear by?
If music is my soul, then fashion is my passion. I am in awe of John Galliano for the high-octave drama around his clothes. British-Turkish designer Hussein Chalayan is another favourite.

According to you, which is the most stylish accessory of the season?
Traditional,intricate waist-belts and hats.

Apart from your upcoming release, what keeps you busy?
I am working on my next album. I have sung the title track of a short film Love Story and am eagerly awaiting its release. Down South,I am doing playback singing for Yuvan Shankar Raja (Ilaiyaraaja’s son).
