Jackson overdosed himself: Murray’s defense

The King of Pop's physician Dr Conrad Murray, will contest that the pop legend gave himself an overdose.

In a new twist to the Michael Jackson saga, the King of Pop’s physician Dr Conrad Murray, charged with involuntary manslaughter, will contest that the pop legend gave himself an overdose of Propofol, according to reports.

Lawyers for Murray will argue that it was the 50-year-old singer who administered himself the fatal overdose rather than his physician, reported the website TMZ which had first broken the news of Jackson’s death.

The defense will state that around noon,Murray left the room for approximately two minutes to go to the bathroom.

While he was gone, the defense believes Jackson suddenly awakened and was frustrated as he had spent nearly 9 hours trying in vain to sleep.

The defense theory is that Jackson who was a Propofol addict took the 20 ml bottle of the drug and self-injected the remaining contents through IV,causing a massive overdose that stopped his heart.

His lawyers plan to tell the court that,”Dr Murray walked back in the room and saw Jackson with his eyes open and pupils dilated. Dr Murray dropped the phone (he was speaking with his girlfriend) and began administering CPR.”

In February,Murray was charged with involuntary manslaughter but pleaded not guilty. If convicted,he faces four years in prison.

The 56-year-old doctor is accused of killing Jackson but “without malice”. The prosecutors have to prove that the doctor was criminally negligent when he gave Jackson the drug called Propofol shortly before he died.

The coroners report in August said that Jackson’s death was caused by a mix of painkillers and sedatives, but mainly due to a Propofol overdose.

The case of manslaughter was built over a long period of time with bottles of the drug being found in the doctor’s bag and on the floor near the singer’s bedside table.

The defense will argue Jackson grabbed the bottle from the nightstand, injected himself and then dropped the bottle.

Murray started working for the pop icon in May last year. It was a time when Jackson was trying to revive his career after it hit a low period owing to child molestation charges from which he was eventually acquitted.

Jackson died on June 25,just days before embarking on his much awaited comeback concert,’This is it’,at the O2 arena in London.
