In the latest episode of Navya Naveli Nanda’s podcast, What The Hell Navya, three generations of women—veteran actor Jaya Bachchan, her daughter Shweta Bachchan, and granddaughter Navya Naveli—came together to discuss the impact of the internet on people’s lives. The conversation delved into the trend of oversharing on social media platforms.

When Navya questioned whether people overshare on the internet today, Shweta responded by emphasizing the subjective nature of what constitutes “too much”. She said, “Who is to say too much? For you sharing that you are waking up and this is how you have woken up is fine.” Navya interjects and says, “I don’t share that.” Shweta continues, “Navya, you share a lot on the Internet. I am eating this. I am eating that. I am wearing this flower on my head.”

Navya counters and says, “Even you post things like my children are taking the first step. Even you are sharing.” Shweta clarifies and says, “I am very sporadic in my posting. That’s my choice. I am not putting pictures of myself all the time unless it is absolutely necessary but you share every meme, photograph of your plate…so it’s about a choice and Nani doesn’t share at all.”

The discussion then turned to the hypothetical Instagram account of Jaya Bachchan, with Shweta Bachchan and Navya Naveli Nanda speculating on its potential content. Jaya, who doesn’t have a social media presence, interrupted and says, “There is enough that the world knows about us, we don’t need to share on Instagram.” Jaya does not have a social media handle but other members of the Bachchan family are active on social media. Later, Navya explained how Instagram has helped her to put her work out there and speak about her project.

In a previous episode, Jaya Bachchan addressed memes targeting her, responding with wit and humour. She said, “I don’t mind, but the people who are doing these memes are so bad. They should do it properly.”
