‘Ranveer Singh was shaken during Dhurandhar, his films didn’t work,’ Co-actor on star shooting during tough times
As Dhurandhar continues its successful run at the box office, Ranveer Singh's co-star Ankit Sagar reveals the actor was affected by the series of flops he delivered before this film. However, he never let it impact the Aditya Dhar film.

Actor Ranveer Singh has made quite an impactful return to the big screen with Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar. The film has emerged as a commercial blockbuster with Rs 870 crore earnings globally after 17 days of release, while it continues to divide the audience given its political narrative. Dhurandhar has emerged as Ranveer Singh’s biggest hit ever, and comes at an opportune time for the actor who had delivered only one success since pandemic, Dharma’s Rocky Aur Rani ki Prem Kahaani. Now, his Dhurandhar co-actor Ankit Sagar has said that Dhurandhar 2 will put the spotlight on Ranveer’s Hamza who was largely seen on the sidelines during the first iteration given the film’s script. He also spoke about the star shooting Dhurandhar during a challenging time.
With Dhurandhar 2 set for a March 2026 release, the actor is heading for another likely hit early next year. This comes after two years of controversies and criticism where Ranveer’s films were either delayed or cancelled.
Ranveer Singh’s tough time
While Ranveer’s Jayeshbhai Jordaar and Cirkus badly tanked at the box office during the pandemic, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani performed well. What further affected Ranveer’s professional trajectory was the indefinite silence on Ranveer’s Don 3, rumors about his superhero film Shaktimaan getting shelved. Now, with Dhurandhar’s success, Ranveer is not just getting praise from fans; even his co-stars have been lauding the actor for his craft.
‘Ranveer will take over everyone in Dhurandhar 2’
While many feel that, despite being the hero in Dhurandhar, Ranveer has gotten overshadowed by Akshaye Khanna, his co-star Ankit Sagar says that part one only introduced Ranveer as Hamza. In a conversation with Siddharth Kannan, Ankit — who plays Javed Khanani in the Aditya Dhar film — shares, “Ranveer has done a great job. Akshaye’s character had stylish traits, which were something Ranveer’s character lacked in the first part. Ranveer has only been introduced in the first part. I think he will take over in the second part. Had the film not been divided into two parts, things would have been different.”
Akshaye Khanna as Rehman Dakait in the film has stolen the show, while many demanded an Oscar for the actor, Ankit feels, the actor is just getting started. Talking about the adulation and attention, Akshaye Khanna received for the film, Ankit added, “Whatever Akshaye has done in the film, people are saying he has held the film on his shoulders, but in what category are people demanding an Oscar for him. He is yet to get his due, and he will now that the film will release. We all want an Oscar, but has the film reached them (the Academy) yet? He should get one, but he will be seen in another role after that; he will be unstoppable.”
‘Ranveer Singh had to prove himself with Dhurandhar’
Ankit Sagar has called Ranveer a great human being and also went on to share an incident about the Dhurandhar co-star. He said, “Ranveer is a great human being, he has great energy. During my wrap in the Mumbai schedule, two cakes were brought in. On 30th June, he made me and Ankit Gera cut the cakes. Then we danced a lot.”
He even went on to share how Ranveer was quite focused during Dhurandhar. “Everyone gets shaken when their films don’t work. He has been a superstar. When someone is down, people start writing a lot about that person. He was shaken a little bit, but that did not affect his work; he knew that he had to prove himself with this. He stayed in that look for two years; he balanced himself so well. Ranveer stayed in his character throughout; it was amazing to see that.”

Ankit also shared how he hugged Ranveer and cried at Dhurandhar’s screening. Recalling the emotional moment, Ankit recalled telling Ranveer how it took him 42 years to get an exposure of this kind.
Dhurandhar’s successful box office run
Despite the negativity surrounding Dhurandhar on the sidelines, the film has managed to do quite well at the box office. It has managed to overtake Chhaava and Pushpa 2’s records. According to Sacnilk, in its 17-day run, Dhurandhar has managed to collect Rs 555.75 crores net in India. On its third Sunday, the film earned Rs 38.5 crores in India. Worldwide, Dhurandhar has already crossed the 800 crore mark. In 16 days, the film collected Rs 847.25 crores.
Reacting to Dhurandhar’s success, Ranveer Singh has also posted a story on his social media, where he wrote, “Kismat ki ek bohot khoobsurat aadat hai, ki woh waqt aane par badalti hai… lekin filhaal… nazar aur sabr. (Destiny has a beautiful habit of changing with time… but for now, it’s about patience and faith)”.
