Ranbir Kapoor says his character in Animal as ‘tough and uncompromising’ as Kabir Singh and Arjun Reddy, but more ‘relatable, human’
In a new interview, Ranbir Kapoor shared how his character in Animal is similar yet different from Arjun Reddy and Kabir Singh, the infamous protagonists of Sandeep Reddy Vanga.

Ranbir Kapoor’s character in Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s upcoming film, Animal has been drawing attention ever since the film’s teaser and songs were released. In a recent interview, Ranbir has shared how his character in the film is similar yet different from Arjun Reddy and Kabir Singh, the infamous protagonists of Vanga. He also shared that Animal is a film which will keep the audience at the edge of their seats.
While speaking to Variety, Ranbir clarified that the reason he chose to do Animal was not the success of Vanga’s previous films, Arjun Reddy and Kabir Singh. Instead, it was the script of the film. However, he did enjoy watching Arjun Reddy and Kabir Singh.
Ranbir said, “I was really drawn to the script of Animal. It’s a unique and intense story that immediately caught my attention. As for watching Arjun Reddy or Kabir Singh, I must admit that I did watch both films and found them to be incredibly powerful and impactful. However, my decision to accept Animal was not solely based on those films.”
The actor looked at the opportunity to do Animal as a chance to “explore new dimensions’ in his acting journey and a way to break out of his on-screen image of a lover boy.
Calling his character “multi-dimensional and complex”, Ranbir accepted that his character in Animal has traits of Vanga’s leading men. He shared, “My character in Animal does possess some of the traits typically associated with Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s protagonists. He is indeed tough and uncompromising in certain aspects.” But there are some traits which also set him apart. Ranbir added, “While he may exhibit strength and determination, there are also moments of vulnerability and internal conflict that make him more relatable and human.”

In the movie, Ranbir plays a doting son to his father, played by Anil Kapoor. He is also shown to be madly in love with Rashmika Mandanna’s character. Bobby Deol will be seen as an antagonist in the drama.
Ranbir is confident that the narrative and characters of Animal will keep the viewers ‘captivated’. He described the film as, “Animal is a gripping and intense film that delves into the depths of human emotions and relationships. It explores the complexities of life and the choices we make, with a narrative that keeps you on the edge of your seat.”
Animla will hit the screens on December 1, along with Meghna Gulzar’s Sam Bahadur, starring Vicky Kaushal in the titular role.
