In a recent interview, Karan Johar revealed how he called Sanjay Leela Bhansali several times but never got a call from him in return.
Karan Johar said Sanjay Leela Bhansali never calls him after his film's release. (Photo: Karan/Instagram, Varinder Chawla) Karan Johar and Sanjay Leela Bhansali are often touted to be friends despite competition as contemporaries. However, it seems like SLB is not the kind of friend who would pick up the phone to congratulate the other. In a recent interview, KJo revealed that the Devdas director has never called him up, even when he has called him ‘several times’.
Karan was in conversation with the internationally acclaimed American designer Prabal Gurung. As they discussed the success of Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, Prabal asked Karan if he got a call from Sanjay Leela Bhansali after the film. “He’s actually never called me after any film. But I have called him several times,” KJo replied.
He then left the audience in splits as he confessed that filmmakers ‘very rarely’ call him. “This film.. particularly, I got a lot of calls, and I was very grateful,” Karan said.
As the designer mentioned Anurag Kashyap had publicly praised the film, Karan in his inimitable humour said how the Manmarziyan director watched the film twice, leading him to wonder what’s wrong with it. He also mentioned how he loves Anurag as a filmmaker but he single-handedly ruined his acting career.
When Anurag Kashyap praised Karan Johar’s performance in Bombay Velvet
Helmed by ace filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, the movie featured Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma in the lead roles and marked producer-director Karan Johar’s debut as an actor.
In the recent Express Adda, Johar humorously mentioned how his acting career seemingly came to an end with Bombay Velvet, quipping that even his own production company, Dharma Productions, wouldn’t cast him now. During a recent conversation with indianexpress.com, Anurag Kashyap, who has often addressed the film’s failure, praised Karan Johar’s performance in Bombay Velvet, describing it as ‘amazing’.
“Karan was amazing in Bombay Velvet. I will maintain that his performance in Bombay Velvet was unbelievably amazing. Woh Karan mazak me bolta hai (He was joking),” Kashyap responded to Johar’s comments on his acting career. As readers would know, KJo played the role of Kaizad Khambatta, the antagonist, in Bombay Velvet.
Karan Johar is busy promoting his upcoming production venture, Nikhil Nagesh Bhat’s Kill. The Lakshya-starrer actioner recently premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival.
