Divya Dutta reacts to Ranvir Shorey joining Bigg Boss because he isn’t getting work in films, calls him a ‘fabulous’ actor: ‘He must be refusing work as well’
While introducing himself on Bigg Boss OTT 3, Ranvir Shorey had said, 'I am an actor. I did my first film in 1999. If I had work, why would I be here today?'

Divya Dutta said that if a good actor suddenly finds themselves in a position where work offers are drying up, it is mostly because the industry has moved on to a new “flavour of the season.” The actor was asked to share her insights on how the industry functions in the context of Ranvir Shorey’s recent comments that he agreed to participate in Bigg Boss because he is out of work.
Ranvir is one of the contestants on the Anil Kapoor-hosted Bigg Boss OTT season three. On the show, while introducing himself to fellow contestant Shivani Kumari, Ranvir had said, “I am an actor. I did my first film in 1999. If I had work, why would I be here today?”
In an interview with Siddharth Kanan, Divya Dutta was asked why a seasoned actor like Ranvir, who had featured in several acclaimed indie films in the mid 2000s, including Khosla Ka Ghosla, Mithya and Bheja Fry, among others, was out of work. “Here we have a lot of flavours of the season. It is like if you keep a diamond here, then everyone will want that and then in the next five-six films you will see the same actor. Then, their attention will shift, and they will look at the next diamond. So, it is rotating, but my case was different, I have been consistent maybe because I divide my work,” Divya said.

The actor added, “I am sure he refuses a lot of work, too, because he is such a fabulous actor. It can’t be like he is not getting work, especially with OTT coming in. But an actor also has that will, where they feel they don’t want to do certain roles. Maybe he is going through that phase.”
When asked how Ranvir is like as a person, Divya Dutta said, “He is a fun person. We did Manto together and Aaja Nachle as well. He is absolutely fabulous!”
In an earlier interview with PTI, Ranvir had said that is a challenge for him to bag the roles he wants to do and is hence selective. “I never wanted to be a hero or be the leading man who is doing the same thing in every film. I thrive on wanting to do different roles and be different human beings in different circumstances. That is my game and that is my challenge….
“With OTT you have a platform to reach your audience without theatres. Earlier there was no other way than theatres which had a fixed number of shows, fixed people controlling and exploiting it. For smaller players it is difficult to foot in,” he added.
