Bobby Deol tears up recalling how career struggles put his family ‘through hardship’: ‘I know they were going through pain’
At the third edition of SCREEN Live, Bobby Deol got emotional while recounting how his career struggles impacted him and his family.

Bobby Deol has experienced a rollercoaster journey in the Hindi film industry. After becoming one of the most sought-after actors in the 1990s, his career witnessed a significant slump during the 2000s. However, his powerful comeback with the Netflix film Class of 83 (2020) and the web series Aashram (2020) earned him critical acclaim, reestablishing him as a serious performer. More recently, he won hearts with his portrayal of the menacing antagonist Abrar in Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal, marking his return to mass popularity.
At the recently held SCREEN Live in Mumbai, Bobby got emotional while recounting how his career struggles impacted him and his family. With tears streaming down his face, the Gupt actor revealed how difficult it was for his loved ones to see him go through tough times during his career slump. Bobby said, “I did put them through hardship, my family. We are so close knit, we live together and I know that they were going through pain by seeing me go through pain and there is nothing they could have done.”
As his elder brother and actor Sunny Deol tried to console a tearful Bobby, he added, “That’s the whole thing. Don’t give up in life.”

Bobby Deol made his acting debut in Rajkumar Santoshi’s Barsaat in 1995 and quickly rose to fame with hits like Gupt (1997), Soldier (1998), Badal (2000), Bichhoo (2000), Ajnabee (2001), and Humraaz (2002). However, the 2000s brought a series of box office failures, and despite an attempted comeback with Race 3 (2018)—which was panned by critics but fared well commercially—his career stagnated until his success with Class of ’83 and Aashram.
Animal, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, became a turning point for Bobby, with audiences and critics alike praising his chilling portrayal of Abrar, a mute antagonist. The film achieved massive box office success, with Bobby’s performance being hailed as one of his finest.

Looking ahead, Bobby Deol has an exciting lineup of projects. He will appear in two Telugu films, Daaku Maharaaj and Hari Hara Veera Mallu: Part 1. Additionally, he will star in the much-awaited multi-starrer Housefull 5, Alpha, and the Tamil film Thalapathy 69.
