Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi today inaugurated the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jodhpur campus. The IIT Jodhpur campus is spread over 852 acres of land and is a “future-driven” institute with 10 departments, three schools, five centers and six interdisciplinary programmes. IIT Jodhpur provides high quality inclusive holistic education to more than 4500 students and supports cutting-edge research and deep-tech innovation initiatives which will boost the economy. IIT Jodhpur was established in 2008 with seven other IITs. The institute is situated on Jodhpur-Nagaur Highway. IIT Jodhpur, as per an institute statement, stands out as one of the best-planned technical campuses in India with exemplary initiatives for sustainability. The institute is committed to nurture excellence of thoughts, foster human values, and produce future leaders committed to creating a self-reliant India, it added. The academic curriculum at IIT Jodhpur aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and has several unique features including offering a variety of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in emerging fields like Clean Energy, Artificial Intelligence, Bio-engineering, and more. IIT Jodhpur and AIIMS Jodhpur also offer unique innovation-driven joint degree programmes in medical technologies. There is also a mandatory social connect programme at IIT Jodhpur that connects students and faculty to work on scientific projects benefiting rural and surrounding areas. Students have the opportunity to engage in advanced research in interdisciplinary areas including digital humanities, computational social science, quantum information and computation, space science and technology; and robotics and mobility to name a few. IIT Jodhpur has a vibrant innovation environment and is involved in major projects supported by various government agencies such as DST, ISRO, DRDO, DAE, MeitY, DBT, BIRAC, Ministry of Ayush, Office of Principal Scientific Advisor.
